  12. This program was written in order to assist the programmer / technician to
  13. analyze and setup serial / parallel communications.  It assumes the user
  14. has some basic understanding of data communications.  On online Help menu
  15. provides some basic assistance for better understanding.

  19. System requirements:
  20.  
  21.    IMB PC or compatible using MS-DOS 3.1 or later.
  22.    A special cable-tap for monitoring active communications.
  23.  
  24.    Although not required, A PC/AT will have much better performance.

  27. Program features:

  29.    Test Serial ports (COM1, COM2) and Parallel ports (LPT1, LPT2) in
  30.    either an Online-active , Monitor-only, or Data-capture modes.
  31.  
  32.    Automatic testing and sychronization to the serial port data.

  34.    Ability to initialize the serial / parallel ports.

  36.    DOS shell.

  43. Program startup:
  44.  
  45.    Connect your PC/XT/AT serial / parallel port to the device that
  46.    you wish to monitor using the special cable-tap ( or equivalent )
  47.    and load this program by typing [ PORT.EXE ] at the command line.

  49.    When the program has finished loading, you may scroll through the
  50.    selection menu to perform the tests you choose.

  57.    When using the Auto baud rate detection, keep in mind that this is
  58.    an early attempt and it is not perfect.  You may have to run the test
  59.    more than once to get accurate results.

  61.    If you select a port which your computer does not have, the program will
  62.    not detect it. So be sure you select the proper port.
  63.  
  64.    For registered users, you will receive free of charge the special cable-tap
  65.    and any additional documentation.  Also for a smaller fee, you will receive
  66.    any updates, corrections, and additions to this program.
